NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – April 16, 2010 – Marc Koch, MD, MBA, president and CEO of Somnia Anesthesia, addressed an audience of hospital and health system executives at the recent Hospitals and Health Systems – Improving Profitability Conference, presented by Becker’s Hospital Review and designed specifically for that audience. The two-day conference, which took place April 13-14 in Chicago, was attended by more than 200 healthcare leaders from institutions across the country.
“We were delighted to have been able to recruit Dr. Koch for the panel addressing improvements in hospital profitability, and healthcare reform,” said Scott Becker, partner, McGuireWoods, and publisher of Becker’s Hospital Review. “His success as an anesthesiologist and MBA who started and runs a national anesthesia services company made him the perfect choice for inclusion on the panel discussing how trends and performance improvement initiatives should align with hospital physicians.”
Koch, a board-certified MD anesthesiologist, also earned an MBA from Fordham University. That unique blend of clinical and business led him to start Somnia Anesthesia with his partner, Somnia Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Robert Goldstein. “Our business is the delivery of scalable anesthesia services solutions to healthcare institutions of every size, so it’s directly tied to a hospital’s revenue-generating center—the OR,” said Dr. Koch. “We understand the complex synergy that must exist between efficient operations, clinical excellence and patient and staff satisfaction in order to optimize revenue.”
Joining Dr. Koch on the panel was Bill Southwick, president & CEO, Healthmark Partners, and Marc Halley, president & CEO, Halley Consulting Group.
