NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – April 16, 2010 – Somnia Anesthesia today announced the appointment of Hugh Morgan to the position of Quality Assurance Officer. In this newly created role, Morgan will direct Somnia’s Clinical Quality Excellence Program and assume oversight of clinical quality for the anesthesia practices the company manages for hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers across the county. He will report to Somnia Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President, Robert Goldstein, MD.

Mr. Morgan joins Somnia with more than 15 years experience in hospital and physician practice management, as well as in consulting for academic, community, military and tertiary care facilities. His focus and expertise lie in the application of clinical quality in the areas of anesthesia and perioperative services and surgery.
Morgan joined Somnia full time in 2010, after serving for a year as a consultant for the company in the capacity of Administrator for a start-up anesthesia physician practice. His deep hospital experience, however, had its start in 1994, when began to hold a series of administrative and management positions in the US Army military healthcare system, including time as Assistant Hospital Administrator at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, and, then, as Administrator for the Department of Surgery at Keller Army Community Hospital at West Point. Following his work for the Army, Morgan moved to Temple University Hospital, where he spent five years managing Perioperative Services. After Temple, he became Director for Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, NJ, where he managed an anesthesia physician practice.
Throughout his career, Mr. Morgan has demonstrated success in the areas of clinical quality assurance, operations, revenue cycle management, productivity strategies, technology and information management systems and resource utilization.
In 2005, he achieved Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) status from the Medical Group Management Association. He holds a BA, Business, from LaSalle University in Philadelphia.
