NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – December 10, 2010 —Chou Yang, MD of Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, CA and Sheila Murphy, CRNA of Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, WA became the first recipients of Somnia’s 2010 Clinical Quality Performance Award. Dr. Yang was presented with his award while attending Somnia’s first annual Leadership Retreat held in New Rochelle, NY December 2-3, 2010.
Yang and Murphy received the award for distinguishing themselves in providing and inspiring the delivery of high-quality, safe anesthesia care. Somnia intends to bestow this award to notable anesthesia clinicians on a quarterly basis.
Announcing the first winners of the Clinical Quality Performance Award was part of the Leadership Retreat’s two day agenda, which included numerous clinical and leadership presentations, discussions and breakout sessions focused on various aspects of effectively managing anesthesia services. Topics covered included risk management, respect in the workplace, clinical quality excellence and peer presentations on the following topics:
The retreat was attended by anesthesiologists, CRNAs and practice administrators practicing throughout the U.S. Moderated by Hugh Morgan, Somnia’s Quality Assurance Officer, and co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, Robert Goldstein, MD, the two day event sought input from its attendees to generate new and more efficient practices to ensure the high-quality delivery of anesthesia in all venues. Familiar with the practical challenges of providing anesthesia management services, Somnia sought valued feedback from providers currently working in an evolving industry complicated by recent regulatory and economic challenges.
