NEW ROCHELLE, NY – JANUARY 10, 2012 – Somnia Anesthesia, a leading anesthesiology practice management company, today announced the appointment of Robert Farrar, MD, JD of Montclair, NJ to the role of Vice President of Medical Affairs. Dr. Farrar will support a variety of clinical strategic initiatives for anesthesia practices managed by Somnia in hospitals and surgery centers throughout the country. He will also have a key role in expanding the company’s quality management program, use of electronic medical records and clinical information technology. Dr. Farrar reports to Somnia’s Chief Medical Officer, Robert C. Goldstein, MD.Dr. Farrar has 25 years of clinical anesthesia experience. Most recently, Dr. Farrar served as Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, PA and as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at Easton Hospital in Easton, PA. He previously held clinical anesthesia positions at several New Jersey hospitals including AtlantiCare Health System (Atlantic City) and Jersey City Medical Center, where he served as Vice Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology. Additionally, Dr. Farrar was a senior staff anesthesiologist at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where he was a member of both the cardiothoracic and critical care divisions. He has been actively involved in development and implementation of quality systems for more than 20 years.Dr. Farrar received his medical degree from The Catholic University of the Sacred Heart and his law degree from the University of Detroit/Mercy. He completed his internship at Saint Michael’s Medical Center (Newark, NJ) and residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Farrar also completed a fellowship in cardiovascular anesthesia and critical care medicine at Loyola University of Chicago.
