NEW ROCHELLE, NY (DECEMBER 13, 2011) – Roy S. Winston, MD, has been named Chief of Anesthesiology at Kaweah Delta Medical Center, Visalia, California. Anesthesia services at the hospital are provided by Primary Anesthesia Services, PC, which is managed by Somnia, Inc., a national anesthesia services company based in New Rochelle, New York.Dr. Winston, who has over 20 years of clinical anesthesiology experience, most recently served as associate director of anesthesiology at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, New York and as interim chief of anesthesia at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso, Michigan. Anesthesia services at both hospitals are managed by Somnia. Dr. Winston previously practiced anesthesia in California in both hospital and ambulatory settings, including service as Medical Director and Chief of Anesthesiology at Sahara Surgical Center in Rancho Mirage. Earlier in his career, Dr. Winston served as Director of Critical Care Medicine and Anesthesiology at Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan, Georgia, and as Clinical Director and Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and University of California at Irvine.Dr. Winston served for 9 years in the United States Navy Reserve, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He also served on three Space Shuttle Critical Support Teams for NASA as a flight surgeon, and participated in the care teams for two U.S. presidents.“Dr. Winston is an effective leader with an outstanding clinical background,” said Robert C. He completed his internship in surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center, also in New York, and his residency in anesthesiology and fellowship in critical care medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. Dr. Winston received additional training in cardiovascular anesthesia at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston Texas.
